AmurLoepard( Panthera pardus orientalis)

AmurLeopard

Description

Amur Leopards can weigh between 70 to 105 pounds. Their long legs allow them to leap up to 19 feet forward and 10 feet into the air. Their dense fur helps them hunt in deep snow while staying warm. The winter coat is lighter in color and becomes more reddish-yellow in the summer. The “spots” on the Amur Leopard are more widely spaced with thick borders compared to other leopard subspecies.

Habitat

They live in mountainous forests with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. The climate in these areas changes drastically between seasons with both very cold winters and warm summers.

Conservation Status

Amur Leopards are critically endangered. There are only around 80–100 left in the wild. The main cause of their decline is habitat loss and fragmentation due to human activity, including logging and development

Why I Chose This Animal

I chose the Amur Leopard because it is a feline, and felines are my favorite group of animals. I think they’re one of the cutest creatures in the animal kingdom. I personally want to own a pet cat in the future.
