Who Am I?

Hey! For safety reasons I can’t share my real name, but you can call me Katio. I’m a student who’s really into technology and learning how things work instead of just using them.

This website is part of a school project where we get to choose something we want to learn on our own. I didn’t want to pick something random or boring, so I decided to make a website because it’s something I’m actually interested in.

I already know the basics of HTML and CSS, so I know how to make a website look nice. But without JavaScript, a website is kind of plain. It looks good, but it doesn’t really do anything.

That’s why I wanted to learn JavaScript. JavaScript lets websites react to what the user does, like clicking buttons or typing things in. It makes websites more fun and interactive instead of just text on a screen.

Learning JavaScript has honestly been hard. The thing that annoys me the most is how strict it is. One small mistake, like a missing symbol or capital letter, and nothing works. At first that really frustrated me, but now I’m getting used to checking my code more carefully.

I want to learn JavaScript because I’m thinking about going into a tech-related career in the future. Technology is everywhere, and I feel like learning this stuff now gives me a head start.

I’m interested in STEM and possibly cybersecurity. I’ve always been the “tech person” in my family. If something breaks or stops working, I’m usually the one people come to for help, which is part of what got me interested in tech.

About Me

I'm Jamaican-American, and my mom is an immigrant. Growing up like that taught me to work hard and not take opportunities for granted.

I was mostly raised in the New England area with my mom. I have three siblings, and I’m the oldest, so I usually have more responsibility than the others.

I’ve been to a few different schools, so I’m pretty used to adapting to new places and meeting new people. It wasn’t always easy, but it helped me become more flexible.

I’ve also traveled outside the country and visited Jamaica, Canada, and the UK. Seeing different places and cultures helped me think differently about the world.

I’d describe myself as motivated and ambitious. When I really want to learn something, I stick with it, even when it gets confusing or frustrating.

I usually get honors each quarter and take school seriously, but I also like learning things that aren’t just for grades. This project is helping me build real skills I can use later.
